The Vandegrift Vipers will face off against the Lake Travis Cavaliers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Vandegrift will be coming into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
Vandegrift stacked a tenth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Round Rock Westwood 38-7 at home. Given Vandegrift's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked eighth, while Round Rock Westwood is ranked 145th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Brendan Fournier went supernova for Vandegrift, rushing for 152 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.9 yards per carry. Fournier was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 52 yards. Kent Sullivan was another key contributor, rushing for 62 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries.
Meanwhile, Lake Travis stacked a sixth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard last Thursday. They claimed a resounding 66-14 victory over Bowie on the road. The win made it back-to-back wins for Lake Travis.
Chaston Ditta was on fire: he threw for 336 yards and five touchdowns while completing 72.4% of his passes. Cole Munnerlyn was in the mix as well, providing Lake Travis with two touchdowns.
Vandegrift pushed their record up to 10-0 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 47.0 points per game. As for Lake Travis, their win bumped their record up to 8-2.
Vandegrift came up short against Lake Travis when the teams last played back in November of 2017, falling 40-28. Thankfully for Vandegrift, Matthew Baldwin (who rushed for 145 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries, and also threw for 193 yards and three touchdowns while completing 82.6% of his passes) won't be suiting up this time.
