St. Mary's was the victim of a tough 70-49 defeat at the hands of Modesto Christian on Friday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for St. Mary's in their matchups with Modesto Christian: they've now lost nine in a row.
St. Mary's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Alex Perasso, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Cayden Ward, who scored 17 points.
It was another big night for Gavin Sykes, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds for Modesto Christian. Sykes has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. Myles Jones was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six assists and two steals.
St. Mary's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-6. As for Modesto Christian, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 18-3.
St. Mary's will head out on the road to take on West at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. West will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 322nd, while St. Mary's is ranked 78th). As for Modesto Christian, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Lynwood at 1:30 p.m. on January 27th. Lynwood has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 2,132 points over their last 25 games.
