Basketball Recap: College Park's Winning Streak Snapped at Five Games

It was a good run, but College Park unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They took an 80-75 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Willis Wildkats. The Cavaliers were up 64-47 in the third quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

College Park lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Ian Inman, who went 8 of 17 en route to 19 points along with five assists and three steals. Inman's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Aiden Buckmon was another key player, putting up 16 points and three steals.

Inman wasn't the only one working in the assists department: College Park was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matchups.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Willis to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tyshon Nixon, who posted 22 points in addition to eight steals and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave Nixon a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Day, who went 5 for 8 on his way to 16 points along with six boards and three steals.

College Park's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 21-9. As for Willis, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 17-9.

College Park and Willis should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. College Park (ranked 128th) will meet Caney Creek (ranked 1071st) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. College Park is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road. Similarly, Willis will challenge New Caney at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday up 674 places (339 vs. 1013). College Park is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 71.1 points per game this season.
