The A.C. Flora Falcons and the South Florence Bruins will round out the year against one another at at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Having struggled with four losses in a row, A.C. Flora turned things around against Butler on Saturday. They walked away with a 56-48 victory over the Bulldogs.
A.C. Flora's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Teonna Draughn led the charge by putting up 13 points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Madison Mickens, who posted 11 points.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Florence). They claimed a resounding 57-24 win over Augusta Christian. The Bruins have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matchups by 23 points or more this season.
A.C. Flora better keep an eye on Allyson Watson. She was instrumental in South Florence's win, posting 21 points in addition to eight boards and four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Watson has scored at least a third of South Florence's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Amari Gamble, who had five points along with nine assists and six boards.
South Florence smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in eight consecutive games.
A.C. Flora picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 4-7. As for South Florence, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: A.C. Flora has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like South Florence struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.8 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
A.C. Flora and South Florence were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, but A.C. Flora came up empty-handed after a 47-46 defeat. Can A.C. Flora avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
