Goshen Central is 2-8 against Valley Central since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Gladiators will be playing in front of their home fans against the Vikings at 4:15 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Goshen Central 3.6, Valley Central 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Goshen Central is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Monticello an 18-0 shutout on Thursday. The victory was familiar territory for the Gladiators, who have now won three matchups in a row.
Addison Freiberger was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Goshen Central got a massive performance out of Sophia Springer, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those four hits gave Springer a new career-high. Lilah Snyder was another key player, going 2-for-3 with five RBI and two runs.
Goshen Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .657. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Valley Central posted their closest win since May 22, 2024 on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Cornwall Central 2-1. The two-run effort marked the Vikings' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Emily Sharpe spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits.
At the plate, Valley Central saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mackenzie Hinspeter, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Valley Central's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-4. As for Goshen Central, their win bumped their record up to 8-2.
Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Goshen Central hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324. However, it's not like Valley Central struggles in that department as they've averaged .355. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
