Minico is on a nine-game streak of home losses dating back to last season, and Wood River a nine-game streak of away losses also dating back to last season. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Thursday. The Minico Spartans will host the Wood River Wolverines at 3:00 p.m. Minico has given up an average of 11.9 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Things were looking good for Minico after they put the first runs on the board on Monday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They came up short against Burley, falling 13-3.
Minico saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nye Salinas, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Another was Maci Woodward, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Wood River posted their closest victory since May 4, 2024 on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Skyview, sneaking past 10-9.
Makinzie Nelson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits. Nelson was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 4-for-4. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last four times she's played.

Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Minico hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .314. However, it's not like Wood River struggles in that department as they've averaged .349. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
