The Lamar Consolidated Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They fell to Fort Bend Kempner 51-45. Lamar Consolidated has struggled against Fort Bend Kempner recently, as their match on Friday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Lamar Consolidated's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Aubrey Edwards, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds, and Kaylani Nichols who scored 18 points.
Even though they lost, Lamar Consolidated smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. This was only their 16th loss (out of 21 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Fort Bend Kempner to victory, but perhaps none more so than Heaven Ferguson, who scored 16 points along with eight steals and five rebounds. Ferguson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Benecia Concepcion, who scored 17 points.
Lamar Consolidated has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost ten of their last 11 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-20 record this season. As for Fort Bend Kempner, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-19.
Lamar Consolidated will take on Fulshear at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Fulshear presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Lamar Consolidated in Texas (Fulshear is ranked 113th, while Lamar Consolidated is ranked 1115th). As for Fort Bend Kempner, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Fort Bend Marshall at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
