Cornerstone Christian gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Unity Christian Lions as the Cornerstone Christian Eagles made off with a 17-7 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Eagles, who have now won six matchups in a row dating back to last season.
Greyson Hale made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Hale was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gage Donaldson, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three doubles, and three RBI. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits. Another player making a difference was Holden Reese, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4.
Cornerstone Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Unity Christian only managed seven hits.
Unity Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cornerstone Christian will venture away from home to take on Tabernacle at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. This will be Tabernacle's first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Unity Christian, they will head out on the road to square off against New Creation Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Unity Christian has given up an average of 9.2 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
