AAA District 5 recap Oct. 30, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Rhea County, who took down 60th ranked Cleveland, 29-27.
Kelvin Wells Jr. of McMinn County ran for the longest rushing play in AAA District 5 this season against Bradley Central last week. Wells Jr. scampered for 72 yards on the play and finished with 146 on the day as his team bested the Bears.
Soddy Daisy's Brett Standifer and C.j. Brown have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Standifer has thrown for 1368 yards this season, while Brown, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 35 catches for 548 yards. McMinn County's Wells Jr. leads the league in rushing yards with 1358.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Bo Cagle's team takes on Bradley Central. At the moment, the Cherokees are in first, while Damon Floyd's team is in third.
McMinn County extended the longest winning streak in AAA District 5 this week by beating the Bears, 34-29. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Cherokees.
