Softball Recap: Clay City Wins Going Away Against South Vermillion

Clay City got themselves on the board against South Vermillion on Monday, but South Vermillion never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 23-0 margin over the Wildcats. The result was nothing new for the Eels, who have now won seven matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Lizzy Sinders made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

In other batting news, Faith Mitchell and Kambryn Rhodes did most of the damage at the plate: Mitchell got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI, while Rhodes got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most RBI Rhodes has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Abigale Shearer, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three RBI and two runs.

Clay City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Vermillion only posted an OBP of .278.

The victory made it two in a row for Clay City and bumps their season record up to 9-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 runs in those games. As for South Vermillion, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 5-7.

Clay City wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 6-5 loss against Terre Haute North Vigo on the 6th. As for South Vermillion, they have also already played their next game, an 8-4 victory against Parke Heritage on the 6th.
