Softball Recap: White County Central Snaps Nine-Game Streak of Losses at Home

White County Central made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Newport, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Bears blew past the Greyhounds 8-1 on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won four games by six runs or more so far this season.

Hannah Blagg made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Haylee Smith was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Allie Schmidt was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

White County Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Newport only posted an OBP of .267.

White County Central's win ended a nine-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 5-7. As for Newport, their loss was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-10.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. White County Central will take on Quitman at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Newport, they will be playing at home against Rivercrest at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
