Dominic Cervantes and Gio Martinez stepped up to the plate in a big way. Cervantes got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and three RBI, while Martinez went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Martinez is becoming a predictor of ALA - Ironwood's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 1-15 when he doesn't).
Meanwhile, Gilbert Christian waltzed into their match on Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They were the clear victors by a 16-3 margin over the Longhorns. Considering the Knights have won 11 games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Caleb Johnson looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Dane Coyle, who fired off five runs, three doubles, and one triple while going 4-for-4. Those three doubles gave him a new career-high. Micky Moran was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Gilbert Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.
Gilbert Christian's win was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-8. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.4 runs over those games. As for ALA - Ironwood, their loss dropped their record down to 4-16.
ALA - Ironwood might still be hurting after the 13-2 defeat they got from Gilbert Christian when the teams last played on April 3rd. Can the Warriors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
