Two dominant signal callers in Cash Williams and Judson Keefer are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Choctaw Yellowjackets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Putnam City Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Choctaw blew past Lawton, posting a 58-6 win on the road. Given Choctaw's advantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma football rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while Lawton is ranked 162nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Choctaw relied on the efforts of Mayor Morgan, who rushed for 90 yards and two touchdowns, and Williams, who threw for 283 yards and three touchdowns while completing 72.2% of his passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Deshawn Smith, who gained 59 total yards and two touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Lawton to a paltry 92 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Choctaw's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out four times before it was all said and done. Lawton's QB won't forget Will Smith anytime soon given Smith sacked him four times.
Meanwhile, Putnam City humbled Putnam City North with a 56-20 victory. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 21-0.
Keefer was on fire: he threw for 391 yards and five touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes, and also caught a touchdown. Keefer was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 53 yards. Davien Taylor was another key contributor, picking up 186 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
The victory makes it two in a row for Choctaw and bumps their season record up to 5-1. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 64.5 points. As for Putnam City, their victory bumped their record up to 3-5.
Everything came up roses for Choctaw against Putnam City in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 37-6 victory. Does Choctaw have another victory up their sleeve, or will Putnam City turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
