Breathitt County had won three straight at home, but on Monday they bumped up to 14-8 to make it four. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Hazard Bulldogs 7-5. This was payback for the Bobcats, who suffered a 12-4 loss the last time these two teams met.
Tatum Moore made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Sebastian Howard and Jayden Hudson did most of the damage at the plate: Howard got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base, while Hudson went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Adam Spencer was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Breathitt County hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive games.
As for Hazard, they now have a losing record of 12-13. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat they have suffered since May 6, 2025.
On Hazard's side, Jakoby Little made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. The Bulldogs are 4-1 when Little posts two or more runs, but 8-12 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Trace Kincaid, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one double.
Coming up, Breathitt County will square off against Wolfe County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hazard, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Perry County Central at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
