Tintic is 0-4 against Rich since February of 2017 but things could change on Saturday. The Tintic Miners just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Rich Rebels at 3:00 p.m.
Tintic is headed into Saturday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Friday. They came up short against Manila, falling 58-32. The Miners were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-9.
Despite their defeat, Tintic saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Samantha Grimstead, who posted 12 points, was perhaps the best of all.
Meanwhile, Rich entered their tilt with Manila on Saturday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They had just enough and edged the Mustangs out 46-44. The score was all tied up 21-21 at the break, but the Rebels were the better team in the second half.
Rich found their leader in sophomore Braylyn Pugmire, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. What's more, Pugmire also racked up three assists, the most she's had since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Paige Smith, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten boards.
Rich smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in six consecutive games.
Rich's win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Tintic, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Tintic has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 33.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Rich struggles in that department as they've been averaging 33.5 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Tintic was taken down by Rich 55-20 in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Tintic was down 34-8.
