The Deer Valley Wolverines will head out to take on the Miramonte Matadors at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Deer Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 21.6 runs per game this season.
While Deer Valley didn't have the best season last year (they finished 3-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against Ygnacio Valley on Friday as they made off with a 25-4 victory. The Wolverines haven't had any issues with the Wolves recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Lysette Marcial was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and one triple. Fennie Kolaco also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Miramonte let Monte Vista stack five runs on them in the seventh inning on Thursday but luckily Miramonte prevailed anyway. The Matadors narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Mustangs 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Matadors have posted since May 31, 2025.
Abby Warren was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over 6.1 innings pitched. Warren was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other batting news, Maddie McKim was excellent, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2025. Sydney Saben was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Miramonte kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in four consecutive contests.
Deer Valley's record now sits at 5-2. As for Miramonte, their record is now 6-3.
Wednesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Deer Valley has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .680. However, it's not like Miramonte struggles in that department as they've averaged .505. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Deer Valley might still be hurting after the 15-1 loss they got from Miramonte when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Can the Wolverines avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
