The Crete Cardinals will head out on the road to face off against the Bennington Badgers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, Crete got themselves on the board against Buena Vista, but Buena Vista never followed suit. They took their matchup on the road with ease, bagging a 42-0 victory over the. The victory was just what Crete needed coming off of a 49-7 loss in their prior matchup.
Crete can attribute much of their success to Carson Kotil, who rushed for 75 yards and a touchdown, and Oscar Ortiz, who rushed for 44 yards and two touchdowns. Ty Yeager made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Meanwhile, Bennington put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Mount Michael Benedictine 76-7 at home. The result was nothing new for Bennington, who have now won five matches by 21 points or more so far this season.
Bennington's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaxon Dumont led the charge by rushing for 113 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries. Quinton Archer was another major influence, as he rushed for 75 yards and ran in a TD.
Crete now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Bennington, their win was their 22nd straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 9-0.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Crete has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 154.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Bennington struggles in that department as they've been even better at 211.2 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
