Western is a perfect 5-0 against Lafayette Jefferson since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Panthers will square off against the Bronchos at 7:00 p.m. Western's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Lafayette Jefferson's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Western is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past McCutcheon 3-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Panthers.
Lucy George spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up 17 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 18 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brynley Erb, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two triples, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most triples she has posted since back in May of 2025. Ruby Weaver was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI.
Meanwhile, while Lafayette Jefferson put up some runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Kokomo. The Bronchos were the clear victors by a 7-0 margin over the Wildkats. The game was the first time the Bronchos have beaten the Wildkats on their field since April 30, 2021.
Andi Mooney made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Mooney was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases.
In other batting news, Rilee Clifton was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ady Davies, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Lafayette Jefferson hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kokomo struck out 12 times.
Western's record is now 19-8. As for Lafayette Jefferson, they now have a winning record of 13-12.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Western hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Lafayette Jefferson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Western's way against Lafayette Jefferson when the teams last played back in April of 2023, as Western made off with a 16-2 victory. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Bronchos have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
