The Haines City Hornets can finally bid farewell to their five-game losing streak thanks to their game on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 61-58 victory over Lake Wales. The victory was just what Haines City needed coming off of a 74-54 loss in their prior contest.
Haines City's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ixion Toro, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Toro has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jorge Ramirez, who scored 21 points along with two steals.
Despite the defeat, Lake Wales had strong showings from Jason Burgos, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals, and Jeremy Willingham, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and three steals. Gabriel Legrand was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with three steals.
Even though they lost, Lake Wales smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Haines City's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-15. As for Lake Wales, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Haines City will take on Davenport at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Lake Wales, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Bartow at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
