The Fairfield Lions fought the good fight in their overtime match against the Fayetteville-Perry Rockets on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Rockets by a score of 49-46. While losing is never fun, Fairfield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 505th, while Fayetteville-Perry is ranked 243rd).
Fayetteville-Perry found their leader in underclassman Christina Murphy, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds. Murphy hasn't dropped below three steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Cara Rummel, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Fairfield's defeat dropped their record down to 8-14. As for Fayetteville-Perry, they pushed their record up to 14-7 with that victory, which was their sixth straight on the road.
Fairfield will be playing at home against Westfall at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Westfall has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last five games. As for Fayetteville-Perry, they will head out on the road to face off against Miami Valley Christian Academy at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Fayetteville-Perry focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Thursday.
