The Burlington Cougars had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 45 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They strolled past Simla with points to spare, taking the game 62-48. With that victory, Burlington brought their scoring average up to 50.6 points per game.
Burlington's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Trinitee Holmes led the charge by dropping a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Lynzee Neal, who scored 16 points along with two steals.
Burlington's victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Simla, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Burlington won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Calhan at 2:30 p.m. on January 13th. Calhan will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 248th, while Burlington is ranked 108th). As for Simla, they will head out on the road to square off against Dolores Huerta Prep at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
