The Hanover Hawks will challenge the Freeman Mavericks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Freeman will be up against a hot Hanover team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Hawks put the hurt on Highland Springs with a sharp 17-4 victory on Monday. With that win, the Hawks brought their scoring average up to 7.4 runs per game.
Willow Dickenson and Kaileigh Byars did most of the damage at the plate: Dickenson got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Byars went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs Byars has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Marisa Sawn, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Hanover kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Freeman made easy work of Maggie Walker on Friday and carried off a 13-3 victory. With that win, the Mavericks brought their scoring average up to 7 runs per game.
Ryleigh Perks was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double. Another player making a difference was Oakley Cotropia, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Freeman has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Hanover, they pushed their record up to 4-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.
Freeman's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Hanover has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Freeman, though, as they've been averaging 10.1 hits. Given Hanover's sizable advantage in that area, the Mavericks will need to find a way to close that gap.
