The East Henderson Eagles had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.2 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They slipped by West Henderson 48-47. Winning is a bit easier when you make five more threes than your opponent, as East Henderson did.
Caiden Brewer was his usual excellent self, scoring 23 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last 15 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Joseph Justice, who scored ten points.
West Henderson's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tyler Nash, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. Jackson Lyda was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
West Henderson struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
East Henderson pushed their record up to 16-4 with that victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.1 points per game. As for West Henderson, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-6.
East Henderson will head out on the road to take on Tuscola at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. As for West Henderson, they will be playing at home against Smoky Mountain at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Smoky Mountain is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.
