After losing to the Southwestern Heights Mustangs the last time they met, the Stanton County Trojans decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Stanton County walked away with a 37-27 win over Southwestern Heights on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Stanton County.
Stanton County found their leader in underclassman Avery Scott, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Scott has scored at least a third of Stanton County's points. Kynzi Fehringer was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Stanton County used a slightly different lineup for their bout with Southwestern Heights. And. Hannah Canny made the most of the opportunity, scoring five points. A few more games like that and she might be seeing even more time going forward.
Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Adeline Woods, who scored four points along with five rebounds and four steals. Woods is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played.
Stanton County has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 9-6 record this season. As for Southwestern Heights, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Stanton County won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Wallace County at 6:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Wallace County will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Stanton County surely won't give up without a fight. As for Southwestern Heights, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Sublette at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Southwestern Heights is facing Sublette at the right time seeing as Sublette is stuck on a 15-game losing streak.
