After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Itawamba Agricultural, the Okolona Chieftains were happy to have found some success on Monday. They snuck past Wheeler with a 45-39 victory. This was payback for Okolona, who suffered a 59-51 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Wheeler's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rebekah Mason, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 21 rebounds. Those 21 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Emma Kate Beckham was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds.
Okolona's win bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Wheeler, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-9.
Okolona will head out on the road to face off against West Union at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. West Union will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. Wheeler will be home for the holidays to greet Saltillo at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
