Colorado Academy is 2-8 against Kent Denver since January of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. Having just played yesterday, the Colorado Academy Mustangs will jump right back in to play the Kent Denver Sun Devils at 4:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Colorado Academy comes in on three and Kent Denver on ten.
Colorado Academy posted their biggest victory yet this season on Monday. They were the clear victor by a 59-35 margin over Eagle Ridge Academy. Given Colorado Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 14th, while Eagle Ridge Academy is ranked 140th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Colorado Academy's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Clyde Love, who scored 14 points, and Simeon Woldeyohannes, who scored ten points along with seven assists and five rebounds. Woldeyohannes is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jason Bratis, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and two steals.
In what's become a running theme this season, Kent Denver gave their fans yet another huge victory on Saturday. They blew past The Academy 74-42 at home. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 46-24.
Kent Denver got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Caleb Fay out in front who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Fay is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Nicholas Buchenau, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.
Colorado Academy pushed their record up to 12-2 with that victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.5 points per game. As for Kent Denver, their victory bumped their record up to 12-1.
Tuesday's contest is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: Colorado Academy have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 28.8 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Kent Denver, though, as they've been averaging only 40.2 rebounds per game. Given Colorado Academy's sizeable advantage in that area, Kent Denver will need to find a way to close that gap.
Colorado Academy didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Kent Denver in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 77-71 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Kent Denver's Ethan Levin, who scored 18 points along with seven assists and five steals.
