The Franklin County Seahawks will square off against the Chiles Timberwolves at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Franklin County comes in on three and Chiles on eight.
On Monday, Franklin County beat Blountstown 8-4.
Sarah Ham was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Peyton Jones, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Charity Larkin, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Chiles got the win against Altha on Friday by a conclusive 11-1. The result was nothing new for the Timberwolves, who have now won 14 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Chiles let Mackenzie Githens and Adelyn Matthews run wild. Githens went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Matthews scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Josie Jordan, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
Chiles hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in eight consecutive matchups.
Franklin County pushed their record up to 14-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Chiles, their record is now 15-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Franklin County hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.9 home runs per game. However, it's not like Chiles struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Franklin County might still be hurting after the 9-3 loss they got from Chiles in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Seahawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
