Baseball Game Preview: Mount Anthony Patriots vs. Rutland

Mount Anthony is 8-2 against Rutland since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Patriots will be playing in front of their home fans against Rutland at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mount Anthony has three straight wins, Rutland has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Mount Anthony is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Vermont's top teams: Burr & Burton, who was ranked 11th at the time (Mount Anthony was ranked second). The Patriots were the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over the Bulldogs on Friday. With that victory, the Patriots brought their scoring average up to 7.1 runs per game.

Carson Andrick and Colby Hill did most of the damage at the plate: Andrick went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI, while Hill got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave Hill a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Smith, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI.

Mount Anthony always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Rutland's offense. They fell just short of Middlebury by a score of 2-0 on Friday.

Mount Anthony's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Rutland, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6-2.

Mount Anthony got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in April against Rutland by a conclusive 15-3 score. Do the Patriots have another victory up their sleeve, or will Rutland turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
