The Bishop Rosecrans Bishops will head out to face off against the Conotton Valley Rockets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Bishop Rosecrans' favor is that they have posted at least 31 points in their last three games.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Bishop Rosecrans and Berne Union meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Bishops enjoyed a cozy 42-28 victory over the Rockets. The score was all tied up 21-21 at the break, but the Bishops were the (much) better team in the second half.
Hayden Perdue had another great game (as he tends to do), throwing for 392 yards and four TDs while picking up 13.1 yards per attempt, and also punching in one touchdown on the ground. What's more, he racked up 18 rushing yards, the most he's had since back in September.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Conotton Valley). They blew past Mathews 66-35 on Friday. The Rockets pushed the score to 60-21 by the end of the third, a deficit the Mustangs cut but never quite recovered from.
Conotton Valley's win came from a few key players Bishop Rosecrans will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Kaden Leggett, who threw for 503 yards and eight TDs while completing 75.8% of his passes, and also punched in one rushing score. His passing game has become a key predictor of Conotton Valley's success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 2-3 otherwise. Gavin Haney was Leggett's top target, picking up 195 receiving yards and three scores, while also rushing for 58 yards and one touchdown on only seven carries.
Conotton Valley's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 46.5 points over those games. As for Bishop Rosecrans, their record is now 6-4.
Everything came up roses for Bishop Rosecrans against Conotton Valley in their previous meeting back in October of 2016, as the squad secured a 70-6 win. In that matchup, the Bishops amassed a halftime lead of 56-6, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
