For the first time this season, Charter Oak will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will welcome the Glendora Tartans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
On Friday, Charter Oak blew past Jordan, posting a 42-7 win. With the Chargers ahead 21-0 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Charter Oak's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Corin Berry, who threw for 177 yards and a pair of TDs on only 15 passes, and also punched in one touchdown on the ground. Torry Huff helped Berry out on the ground, rushing for 50 yards and a pair of scores.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Charter Oak's defense and their three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Joel Sanchez, Tristan Taylor, and Jayden Harris, who each picked up one sack apiece.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Glendora). They claimed a resounding 45-7 win over Ayala. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Tartans had established a 35-point advantage.
A big part of Glendora's victory came down to the chemistry between Sebastian Lawrence and his top target Jarod Ceniceros. Lawrence threw for 148 yards and two touchdowns while Ceniceros picked up 37 receiving yards and one TD. The dominant performance also gave Lawrence a new career-high in passer rating (136.4).
Glendora didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Johnny Jabbour, Nazir McGlothen, and Harry Hiwakawa picked up one apiece. Jabbour got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Glendora, racking up 15 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of McGlothen, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
Glendora's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Charter Oak, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.
Charter Oak took their win against Glendora in their previous meeting back in November of 2024 by a conclusive 38-14 score. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Tartans' Simon Zwick, who rushed for 122 yards and a pair of scores on only ten carries. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Chargers to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
