The Sand Point Eagles/Lady Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 50-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Koliganek. Sand Point was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Koliganek apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Despite the defeat, Sand Point had strong showings from Hawk Jackson, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 14 rebounds, and Rowdy Tripp, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 19 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jackson has scored all season.
Koliganek's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gusty Tunguing IV, who scored 14 points. Another player making a difference was Tristan Kayoukluk, who scored 15 points.
Sand Point has fallen quite a ways from their 12-6 record last season and are now at 2-4. As for Koliganek, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Sand Point won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Dillingham at 3:00 p.m. on January 26th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Alaska (Dillingham is ranked 68th, while Sand Point is ranked 70th). As for Koliganek, Koliganek and King Cove will face off at 1:00 p.m. on January 27th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. One thing working in King Cove's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
