After flying high against the Whittell Warriors last Tuesday, the Coleville Wolves came back down to earth. Coleville took a 45-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of Excel Christian on Friday. Coleville was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Excel Christian apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Excel Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mark Doerfler led the charge by scoring 16 points along with six steals and two blocks. Doerfler has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonah Calderas, who scored 12 points.
Coleville bumped their record down to 1-9 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Excel Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Coleville will square off against Pyramid Lake at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Excel Christian, they will head out on the road to face off against Smith Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Smith Valley's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five matches.
