The Heritage Academy Gateway Heroes came tearing into Thursday's match with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, they made off with a 47-46 win over ASU Prep Poly.
Heritage Academy Gateway's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brock Akin, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and three blocks. Akin hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Talon Lemieux, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds.
ASU Prep Poly's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of CJ Welcome, who scored 17 points along with four steals, and Ashton Turner who scored 16 points. Turner is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Andrew Collins, who scored two points along with five assists and four steals.
Heritage Academy Gateway's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-1. As for ASU Prep Poly, their loss dropped their record down to 8-4.
Heritage Academy Gateway won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Ridgeline Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th. Ridgeline Academy will be coming into the match with an undefeated record on the line. ASU Prep Poly's road trip will continue as they head out to face Ridgeview College Prep at 6:00 p.m. on January 29th.
