It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Madison Marlins can now relate to. They took a serious blow against Magnolia West on Friday, falling 68-0. While losing is never fun, Madison can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 796th, while Magnolia West is ranked 251st).
Camben Emanuel threw for 87 yards on six of 18 attempts. Dontreal Fisher was his top target, picking up 84 receiving yards. On the ground, Kenyan Navarre rushed for 46 yards.
Magnolia West's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Bryson Broadway led the charge by throwing for 246 yards and a touchdown on only 14 passes. Another player making a difference was Carson Dunaway, who gained 65 total yards and two touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Madison to a paltry 152 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Magnolia West's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out six times before it was all said and done. It was a group effort, with three picking up two apiece.
Madison's defeat dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Magnolia West, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.
Madison does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Magnolia West will be playing at home against Smithson Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Smithson Valley is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last ten games.
