After a string of eight wins, Baker County's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 68-52 bruising from the Fort White Indians. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Indians apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.
Baker County lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Kaitlyn Holland, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 15 boards. The dominant performance gave Holland a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Yamise Haygood, who posted 17 points in addition to five assists and four steals.
Even though they lost, Baker County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fort White only pulled down 11 offensive rebounds.
Fort White was led to victory by Isreal Hart and Ya'Zuri Hollie. Hart had 30 points along with five rebounds and five steals, while Hollie put up 24 points in addition to four steals and three blocks. Hart is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last six games she's played. Erickah Roberson was another key player, putting up eight points along with seven boards and four steals.
Baker County's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-2. As for Fort White, their win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-4.
Baker County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 56-17 victory against Baldwin on the 16th. Fort White has also already played their next match, a 58-34 loss against Newberry on the 16th.
