Maple Mountain is 0-6 against Timpview since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Maple Mountain Golden Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Timpview Thunderbirds at 5:15 p.m. Maple Mountain is looking to tack on another W to their seven-game streak on the road.
Even though Maple Mountain has not done well against Springville recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Maple Mountain slipped by Springville 47-46.
Maple Mountain's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Leah Bailey, who scored 15 points along with six assists and two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Shay Brown, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Timpview posted their closest win yet this season on Friday. They had just enough and edged Springville out 45-43. Given Timpview's advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked tenth, while Springville is ranked 71st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Lina Ballin, who scored 25 points along with five rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Aiaiaga Galea'i was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven rebounds.
Maple Mountain has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. Timpview's record is now 11-3.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's game: Maple Mountain have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 4.4 threes per game. It's a different story for Timpview, though, as they've been averaging only 5.4 threes per game. Given Maple Mountain's sizeable advantage in that area, Timpview will need to find a way to close that gap.
Maple Mountain was taken down by Timpview 72-34 in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. Can Maple Mountain avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
