Hays is 0-1 against Wagner since October of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Hays Hawks will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wagner Thunderbirds at 7:00 p.m. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Hays has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Wagner will arrive with three straight victories.
Last Friday, things could have been worse for Hays, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 42-24 loss to Seguin. That's two games in a row now that Hays has lost by exactly 18 points.
Meanwhile, Wagner was able to grind out a solid victory over Boerne-Champion on Friday, taking the game 34-21.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wagner to victory, but perhaps none more so than Juan'yae Taylor, who rushed for 150 yards and a touchdown. Taylor's longest rush was for an incredible 78 yards. Another player making a difference was Cameron Smith, who rushed for 91 yards and a touchdown on only six carries.
Wagner's victory bumped their season record to 5-2 while Hays' loss dropped theirs to 3-4.
Hays suffered a grim 42-21 defeat to Wagner when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Hays, Jeremiah Chery (who rushed for 171 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.6 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
