Horizon hasn't had much luck against Hanks recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Scorpions are taking a road trip to face off against the Knights at 6:30 p.m. Horizon has given up an average of 10.3 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Parkland hit Horizon with a 14-run third inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Scorpions came up short against the Matadors, falling 17-1.
Horizon saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sophia Morin, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Hanks came into Tuesday's matchup having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against Bel Air on Tuesday as they made off with a 17-5 victory. Considering the Knights have won nine games by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Jessie Hellwig was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Hellwig was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one run.
In other batting news, Jayden Rivas was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Dreana Ballesteros was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs.
Hanks kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Hanks' record now sits at 10-18-1. As for Horizon, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-17.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Horizon hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .348. However, it's not like Hanks struggles in that department as they've averaged .334. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Horizon suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Hanks in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Scorpions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
