Even though the Marion Giants scored an imposing 59 points on Saturday, the Anderson Indians still came out on top. Anderson secured a 64-59 W over the Giants. Given Anderson's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 26th, while the Giants are ranked 132nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Damien King was his usual excellent self, scoring 28 points along with six rebounds and two steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Anderson's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Colin Lewis, who scored ten points along with seven assists and six rebounds.
Despite the loss, Marion still got an impressive performance from Jaymen Townsend, who dropped a double-double on 31 points and 14 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Townsend has scored all season. Lukias Warner was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Marion smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Anderson only pulled down two offensive rebounds.
Anderson is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. As for Marion, they dropped their record down to 6-11 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight at home.
Anderson will take on the Berries at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Marion, they will head out on the road to take on the Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Warsaw has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
