The Mortimer Jordan Blue Devils won the last time they faced the Fultondale Wildcats, and things went their way on Thursday too. Mortimer Jordan pulled ahead with a 14-13 photo finish over Fultondale. Given Mortimer Jordan's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 45th, while Fultondale is ranked 183rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mortimer Jordan's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB six times. The heavy lifting was done by Brandon Payne and Jojo Brown who racked up four sacks between them.
Although Fultondale took the loss, they still got scores from Jeremiah Jackson and Matthew Yafondo.
The win makes it two in a row for Mortimer Jordan and bumps their season record up to 8-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 Jackson-Olin and 4-6 Fultondale. As for Fultondale, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mortimer Jordan will challenge Fort Payne at 7:00 p.m. on November 10th. As for Fultondale, they will head out on the road to face off against Deshler at 7:00 p.m. on November 10th. Deshler will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive.
