Basketball Recap: Israel Kongolo's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Ben's Ford Christian over Centreville Academy

After flying high against Wilkinson County Christian Academy last Monday, Ben's Ford Christian came back down to earth. The Ben's Ford Christian Eagles fell 67-58 to the Centreville Academy Tigers on Tuesday. The Eagles were not able to make up for their defeat to the Tigers from their previous meeting back in November of 2019.

Ben's Ford Christian's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Israel Kongolo, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 21 boards. Kongolo is crushing it when it comes to boards: he's pulled down at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Cole Thibodeaux was another key player, shooting 4-for-7 from long range and dropping a double-double on 16 points and 11 boards.

Even though they lost, Ben's Ford Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in nine consecutive matchups.

Ben's Ford Christian's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Centreville Academy, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-4.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Christian Collegiate Academy the next time they take the court. Ben's Ford Christian will head out to face Christian Collegiate Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while Centreville Academy will host them at 7:00 p.m. on January 14th.
