Basketball Game Preview: Wiregrass Ranch Bulls vs. Calvary Christian Warriors

Wiregrass Ranch has won 11 straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Calvary Christian has won 11 straight on the road also dating back to last season, but those streaks won't matter much on Saturday. The Wiregrass Ranch Bulls will take on the Calvary Christian Warriors in a tournament on Saturday. Wiregrass Ranch knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 16 matches -- so hopefully Calvary Christian likes a good challenge.

Wiregrass Ranch is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Lake Gibson: they outscored them in every quarter. Wiregrass Ranch took down Lake Gibson 98-81 on Tuesday. Given the Bulls' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 70th, while the Braves are ranked 461st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Wiregrass Ranch's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Donovan Gaines, who went 9 for 20 on his way to 28 points in addition to seven assists and six boards, and Kj Smith, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten assists. The game was Smith's 15th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyden Wiley, who posted nine points and six rebounds.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Wiregrass Ranch was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Calvary Christian's game on Friday was all tied up 26-26 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They came out on top against Clearwater Central Catholic by a score of 59-49.

Calvary Christian has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season. As for Wiregrass Ranch, their victory bumped their record up to 12-4.
