2A Greater St. Helens recap October 22, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Washougal, who took down 133rd ranked Aberdeen, 28-21.
Adding to the longest winning streak in 2A Greater St. Helens this week, Long beat Hockinson 34-30. The victory was the seventh in a row for the Lumberjacks.
Long's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Ryan Peerboom threw for 181 and 1 touchdown and Brady Hulings had 160 yards receiving. On the ground Jacob Yordy chipped in 166 yards. Yordy helped Long's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 14 yards.
Yordy was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 166 yards on 34 carries as Erik Bertram's team defeated the Hawks. Teammate Austin Darnell added to the ground attack by rushing for 13 yards.
Long's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Lumberjacks feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Peerboom has thrown for 654 yards and 8 touchdowns this season, while Hulings has 15 catches for 328 yards.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when the Lumberjacks' Hulings goes up against Ridgefield's Josh Mason.
Next week's game between Long and the Spudders will feature a good passing match up as Peerboom will test his arm against Mason's defensive ability.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Mark Morris takes on the Panthers. As it stands, the Monarchs are in second, while Washougal is in third.
The league will see a high scoring game when Ridgefield and the Lumberjacks face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Dan Andersen's team comes in having scored 75 this season, while Long has scored 33. The Spudders scored 7 points last week as they lost to Mark Morris.
Ridgefield lost to the Monarchs 48-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Jalen Williams ran for 42 yards in the defeat.
