The Cheektowaga Chargers will face off against the Maryvale Flyers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Cheektowaga will be strutting in after a win while Maryvale will be coming in after a loss.
Cheektowaga took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They blew past Pioneer 12-5. The Chargers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by seven runs or more this season.
Aubrey DuVal was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Daviana Anthony was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Maddison Belliotti was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs.
Cheektowaga always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Maryvale was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against Kenmore East, falling 19-2.
Kaleah Greer was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Maryvale's loss dropped their record down to 2-6-1. As for Cheektowaga, their victory bumped their record up to 3-6.
Maryvale's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Cheektowaga has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Maryvale, though, as they've been averaging only 4.1 strikeouts. Will Cheektowaga keep running through batters, or will the Flyers buck the trend?
Cheektowaga couldn't quite finish off Maryvale in their previous matchup back in April and fell 9-7. Will the Chargers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
