Basketball Recap: Apopka Snags 12th Win in Last 14 Games

Apopka had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the University Cougars as they made off with a 51-30 win. For the Blue Darters, this counts as revenge for the 57-48 victory the Cougars walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Leading Apopka to victory were Jahi Bowden and Jermichael Johnson. Bowden went 8 of 13 en route to 16 points and six steals, while Johnson went 8 for 15 on his way to 17 points and seven boards. The dominant performance gave Bowden a new career-high in steals. Another player making a difference was Jude Angervil, who posted ten points along with seven rebounds and three blocks.

Apopka smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Loss or not, University got some senior leadership from Hudson Maurer and Levi Hubbard. Maurer had nine points, while Hubbard put up five points. Jared Caraballo also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Apopka has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.0 points per game. As for University, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-6.
