After flying high against the Clearwater Tornadoes last Saturday, the Norland Vikings came back down to earth. Norland fell 49-36 to Sports Leadership & Management on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Norland can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 183rd, while Sports Leadership & Management is ranked ninth).
Norland's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Myah Newton, who scored seven points along with 20 rebounds. Jasmine Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Norland bumped their record down to 6-12 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Sports Leadership & Management, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Norland will take on Northwestern at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Sports Leadership & Management, they will play host again and welcome Mater Lakes Academy, where tip off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Mater Lakes Academy and Sports Leadership & Management are at an even 4-4 over their past eight head-to-heads.
