Waverly (Neb.) jumped out to an early lead against
Platteview (Springfield, Neb.) and never looked back on the way to a 21-6 victory on Saturday.
In the first quarter, the Vikings put up six points. Waverly scored on a
Sam Noonan touchdown run.
After taking the lead on a touchdown in the first quarter, WHS led 6-0 at the half.
By the end of the third, the Vikings found themselves trailing by one point as the Trojans captured the lead thanks to one score in the quarter. Platteview scored on a touchdown run by
Trevor Craft in the quarter.
Platteview's only touchdown came on a 4-yard run by Craft in the third quarter.
Waverly has struggled this season, allowing 33.5 points per game. However, Waverly's defense stepped up, holding PHS well below its season average of 15.1 points per game.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which the Springfield school took, 29-7.
The win was a nice bounce back for the Vikings, who lost to Plattsmouth last week, 49-14. The loss was the fourth in a row for the Trojans.
