Hatley put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Vardaman Rams an 8-0 shutout. Considering the Tigers have won six games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
The result came thanks to Emily Hill's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Zoey Horne was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelsey Coffey, who scored two runs while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.
Hatley hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Vardaman struck out nine times.
Hatley has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Vardaman, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 13-8.
Looking ahead, Hatley will take on Itawamba Agricultural in a tournament on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Tigers 3.4, the Indians 1.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Vardaman, they will be taking part in a tournament against Calhoun City at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
