The Westwood Panthers came tearing into Wednesday's contest with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 85-83 victory over Franklin. Given Westwood's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 308th, while Franklin is ranked 949th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Westwood found their leader in underclassman Kavian Bryant, who dropped a double-double on 35 points and ten rebounds. Bryant is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Carter, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Westwood is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. As for Franklin, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-8.
Westwood will head out on the road to challenge Teague at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Teague focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Wednesday. As for Franklin, they will be playing at home against Mexia at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Mexia's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six contests.
