After flying high against Adelson last Tuesday, the Laughlin Cougars came back down to earth. Laughlin took a serious blow against Lake Mead Academy on Friday, falling 80-53. While losing is never fun, Laughlin can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 98th, while Lake Mead Academy is ranked 34th).
Lake Mead Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gavin Cummins led the charge by dropping a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Matthew Cummins jr, who scored seven points along with 11 assists and three steals.
Laughlin bumped their record down to 2-10 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Lake Mead Academy, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Laughlin will take on Indian Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Indian Springs is coming into the match on a six-game losing streak. Lake Mead Academy won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Democracy Prep Agassi Campus at 5:00 p.m. on January 13th. Democracy Prep Agassi Campus is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
